Miscarriage Support Auckland Inc. (NZ) was founded in 1985 being set up by two friends who had miscarried at the same time. They and their partners were appalled at the lack of support by the community and the invalidation and minimisation of their devastating grief experience.

It is our mission to:

  1. Offer our acknowledgement and empathy to couples that have experienced both the birth and the death of their baby and validate their often hidden grief, and rather than rescue, give information, support and hope for healing.
  2. To promote understanding of the grief of the 1 in 4 miscarriages that occurs in pregnancies. ‘It is the strength of the bond with their baby, not the pregnancy length, that determines the intensity of their grief.’
  3. To also offer this information specifically to health professionals and others who may wish to know about their patients’ perspective of miscarriage, helping them deliver more appropriate and sensitive care.

Little Soul

Little Soul was written by Tom from Oswald, as his means of coping with the pain and emotions of miscarriage, and was only later recorded when he was able to sing it for purely personal reasons, and not to be part of the Oswald catalogue. With this in mind, Tom has donated the song to global miscarriage and baby loss charities: allowing the charity to use the song on their website as well as encouraging fans to donate money to the charity when downloading the track.

Miscarriage is constantly linked to the pain of a woman losing her unborn, yet rarely is thought to have any effect on the male, the father-to-be no longer. Having fatherhood taken away from Tom was a nightmare come true, and this nightmare has been brought to light through the heartfelt words of Little Soul.
